Conjunctivitis and keratoconjunctivitis can occur in animals for many reasons: infectious, invasive, mechanical, chemical and physical factors. Keratoconjunctivitis may be a primary disease, or it may be a consequence of another disease not related to the visual analyzer. Eye diseases in young animals (up to 90 days of life) are rare, however, in specialized complexes they are registered at a level of 0.8%. Treatment of keratoconjunctivitis on the farm is carried out using various schemes. In particular, this study uses two schemes: with the systemic use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, with simultaneous retrobulbar novocaine blockade according to Avrorov. The basis for the choice of treatment regimens was the forms of drugs and their routes of administration, as well as the sensitivity of the pathogen to certain antibacterial substances. To form the experimental and control groups, 10 calves of 3 months of age with similar body weight, identical housing and feeding conditions, and having the following symptoms of the onset of the disease were selected: general depression, loss of appetite, hyperemia and swelling of the conjunctiva and eyelids, corneal opacity, blepharospasm and profuse lacrimation. Based on the results obtained, it was established that the use of a treatment regimen for the experimental group with subcutaneous injection into the upper eyelid of “Draxin” and the application of eye ointment “Mizofen-F” showed greater therapeutic effectiveness - in the animals of the experimental group, the dynamics of recovery were more intense, the recovery of the last animal occurred already on Day 6, in animals of the control group on day 8, clinical recovery was observed in four animals. The authors of the article propose to use a relatively new scheme with the introduction of the antibiotic “Draxin” into the upper eyelid and the placement of “Mizofen-F” ophthalmic ointment into the conjunctival space. In the experiment, the authors proved the economic feasibility of the proposed new treatment regimen. Economic efficiency per ruble of costs is 1.9 times higher when using the treatment regimen for the experimental group than for the treatment regimen for the control group: 3.37 rubles and 1.75 rubles, respectively.
