In recent decades, the complex of symptoms, considered as metabolic syndrome (MS), has become of great importance in clinical practice, which includes variants of a combination of arterial hypertension, dyslipidemia, obesity, disorders of carbohydrate metabolism, hyperuricemia, microalbuminuria and a number of other components. The greatest difficulties arise when examining a patient with a moderate functional decrease in vision, the same in both eyes (for example, 0.4). Determination of the relative afferent pupillary defect is useless, and the visual acuity is too high for the effective use of a mirror or optokinetic marks.
