The article considers the folk art of North Caucasus that is one of the world's most ancient civilizations and cultures, a unique multinational and multi-confessional region of Russia. It is a basis for creating corresponding pedagogical conditions of the effective formation of common cultural competencies and tolerance, which is represented as a system, harmonizing the personality internally, and influencing a successful adaptation in a multicultural environment. The article focuses on the importance of art education in the field of folk art as a translation of the best regional and national folk traditions into the modern society, which influence the development of the spiritual sphere of both a concrete person and a society as a whole. The article also presents the content of the introductory course in the design of the environment that allows students to expand their knowledge, connections and relationships and contributes to the introduction to folk art.
