Investigations of the stag stones in Japanese archaeology

The article is devoted to Japanese historiography of the stag stones' studying, during the period from the 1990 and up to the first decade of 2000. Due to field works in Mongolia namely the Japanese archaeology (together with Russian's) is playing now the outstanding role in the investigation of this very important category of archaeological sites represented in concentrated form the material as well as spiritual culture of nomad tribes of Ancient and Medieval Epochs. Though actively draw new data and make necessary description and classification, Japanese archaeologists at the same time pay not-sufficient attention to the problems of stone sculptures' semantic and their ritual using.
