Scientific evidence of widespread acute and chronic psycho-emotional tension (stress) has been presented since the middle of the XX century. The negative impact of stress on health and quality of life is beyond doubt. At the same time, the prevalence of tobacco smoking in the Russian Federation remains high. In recent years, there has been a trend towards increased adherence to the use of electronic nicotine delivery systems, especially among young people. Individuals who experience psycho-emotional stress are more likely to engage in habits that are detrimental to their health, including alcohol abuse and smoking. This article presents an analysis of the data collected by means of an online questionnaire. The prevalence of chronic stress and smoking is reviewed. The association of chronic stress with the presence and severity of nicotine dependence is shown.
