This review shows the ability of vaccine strains of pox vaccine, parotitis and Venezuelan encephalomyelitis viruses to induce tumor cell apoptosis in vitro. Vacine stain of parotitis virus has been found to demonstrate apoptosis-induced characteristics with respect to human erythromyeloleukosis K-562 in early, whereas Venezuelan encephalomyelitis virus (VEV) in late terms of incubation. Apoptosis-induced characteristics of pox vaccine virus are manifested most clearly in Erlich's adenocarcinoma cells. Inability of VEV to induce apoptosis of Erlich's carcinoma cells can be explained both by the type and individual sensitivity of cells to apoptosis inductors and by the nature and individual properties of these agents.
