The article is devoted to justification of the need for studying an inner form of the word for the Russian and foreign audience. In the article the concept of an internal meaning and its correlation to a lexical meaning is specified. The categories of words, the inner form transparency of which does not promote determination of a lexical meaning, are revealed; causes and effects of insufficient attention to an inner form of the word are also disclosed.
