The study of state protective forest strips of the European part of the Russian Federation: analytical review

The issues of ecological and economic significance of state forest strips are analyzed, a brief history of their creation is given. It is noted that the state protective forest strips created more than 60 years ago form a green ecological framework of steppe territories, being a kind of outposts in the fight against drought and dry winds on agricultural lands, protecting the banks of rivers and reservoirs from siltation and destruction. The description of the technological features of the creation and cultivation of state protective forest strips, including the selection of an assortment of tree and shrub species, schemes of their mixing, methods of creating forest crops and agrotechnical care for them, forest care is given. Currently, harsh soil and climatic conditions combined with the age characteristics of the created plantings have led to a deterioration of their condition and growth indicators on a significant part of the areas. This requires the development of a scientifically sound system of measures to increase the stability and durability of the preserved state protective forest strips, as well as to create new protective forest plantations in the steppe and dry-steppe zones of the country.
