In October 2018 marks the 120th anniversary of the birth of Nikolai Plotnikov (1898-1994), associate professor, candidate of biological sciences, head of the department of botany at the Omsk Agricultural Institute named after S.M. Kirov, a famous Siberian botanist-florist. N.A. Plotnikov was born on October 27, 1898 in the city of Omsk in the family of employees. He graduated from a real school, then a natural department of the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of Tomsk University. Until 1924 he worked at the Altai plant protection station. Since 1924, N.A. Plotnikov was assistant of the department of Botany, Siberian Institute of Agriculture and Forestry, then Associate Professor, and from 1933 to 1973 he headed the Department of Botany. Starting from his student years, Nikolai Alekseevich made numerous expeditions to Altai and to Kazakhstan, regions of Western and Eastern Siberia. Joint work with Professors V.F. Semenov, P.L. Dravert, S.D. Lavrov gave valuable scientific potential in the field of mineralogy, geology, geography, botany, local history, contributed to the mass development of territories...
