«Taboo» in some eastern nations’ traditional anthroponimical systems

Paper is devoted to the “Taboo” phenomenon of onomastics. Taboo - the prohibition which imposed on the use of certain words, phrases or proper names. The names of some individuals sometimes should not be pronounced at all, or may be used by certain people in certain situations. Since the word in the human mind often merges with the subject it designates, some of them, including personal names are considered to have magical significance. Such restrictions concerning not only common nouns, but personal names. They are very common in the eastern nations, and they are manifested in different communicative situations. Both adults (males and females) and children could have special Taboo names. Thus, the names of the women of Medieval China could be used exclusively in the so-called “female half” of the house, and they are never used outdoors.
