Is Benedict Spinoza a materialist?

The article analyzes the problem of whether Benedict Spinoza is a materialist. Various arguments are given both in favor of this position and against it. Specific examples of philosophers who consider the dutch thinker a materialist, and who does not, are shown. The history of this problem is analyzed in domestic Spinoza' studies and partly in foreign ones. It is concluded that Spinoza is not an idealist or a materialist, he is outside these philosophical camps, if we proceed from the marxist history of philosophy.
