Proverbs and sayings reflect the linguistic picture of the world of a certain people. A translation search for their equivalents in another foreign language is always a research and creative process. This problem is considered in the context of the interaction of Russian and Spanish. It is concluded that when translating proverbs, it is necessary to know not only their semantic meaning, but also to identify the exact context in which they are used by the speakers of a particular linguistic tradition.
