Language game in the speech of popular English-speaking TV hosts

The article is devoted to gender peculiarities of the language game in the speech of popular Englishspeaking TV hosts Ellen Lee Degeneres and Simon Phillip Cowell. The analysis is based on video of their speeches on talk-shows «The Ellen Degeneres show» and «American Idol», «Pop Idol», «The X Factor UK», «Britain’s Got Talent». Special analysis revealed the fact that women's language game (the example of Ellen DeGeneres), is aimed at attracting attention, creating artistic and comic effect, beating sharp corners. A woman, using a language game, creates a relaxed atmosphere. Women are characterized by using the following types of language game: repetition, metaphor, personification, comparison, phonetic language game - alliteration, intonation. Men’s language game (the example of Simon Cowell), manages creating a comic effect, a mock. It is reflected in the choice of stylistic devices - a pun, repetition at all levels. A man, using witness, expresses his subjective-evaluative attitude to what he is talking about. With the help of language game, a man entertains, brings to the comic and sarcasm.
