Language representation of the concept “way of family life” in Mary Norton's fairy tale “The borrowers”

The article is devoted to the study of the concept “way of family life” - one of the key concepts in the English language picture of the world. The material of the study was Mary Norton's fairy tale “The borrowers”, which is viewed through the prism of the linguistic consciousness of the author of the work. The relevance of the study lies in the fact that it is carried out in line with modern linguistic trends (cognitive linguistics, linguoculturology, conceptology), contributes to the expansion of existing ideas about the English concept of “way of family life” at the level of its linguistic representation in the space of a literary text. The main methods for studying this problem were analytical (analysis of scientific literature on the research topic), contextual analysis, continuous sampling method. The novelty of the study is because of the fact that the English concept of “way of family life” has not previously been subjected to special linguocultural study. The article pays special attention to the analysis of the title of the work, individual lexemes and free phrases denoting furniture and interior items, works of art, song titles, proverbs, and sayings. The data obtained allow us to reveal the author's intention regarding the description of the way of life of a particular English family of the 19th century.
