Language minorities and signage in the Moscow linguistic landscape

The topic “ Language and the City ” has been mostly developed by Russian communication scholars in terms of a “ city language ”, focusing on grammar and stylistic variation of standard and substandard linguistic forms in various territorial settings. Recently, the topic began to be developed using the concept of linguistic landscape, understood as the visual makeup of cities worldwide. Very few researches exist in Russia let alone the Moscow linguistic landscape. Our pilot study focuses on the presence of minority languages in Moscow linguistic landscape. It is one of the first attempts to analyze the minority languages in Moscow linguistic landscape using the concepts of “ voice ”, “ language politics ”, “ language management ”, and ideologies
