Saturation effect on the pulsed excitation of a quantum oscillator

The effect of saturation on the excitation of a quantum harmonic oscillator by an electromagnetic pulse is studied analytically and numerically. The dependence of a transition probability between the ground and overlying stationary states on the duration, carrier frequency, and field amplitude in a pulse is considered. The characteristic features of excitation process and their evolution with a change in the strength of the external disturbance are established. The difference between the saturation effect for a two-level system and a quantum oscillator is discussed.
