The management of distributed engineering operations through the creation of engineering centers (engineering companies) is a key factor in ensuring the competitiveness of manufacturers along the entire value chain. The creation of centers is seen as a strategy for accessing technology and product manufacturing expertise on a global scale, coupled with the accompanying R&D technologies, new organizational structures and coordination mechanisms for manufacturing and corporate engineering, concepts of parallel, collaborative and value design, centers of excellence. The demand for these transformations generates a request for the design and operation of engineering companies, an indicator of the effectiveness of the creation of which, reflecting a strategic perspective in the context of the study, is the assessment of annual business opportunities obtained as a result of engineering development: obtaining new knowledge, creating new product technologies, penetrating new segments market, improving market positioning, entering into strategic alliances or partnerships, and more. According to this position, strategic performance assessment should primarily be carried out in the field of advanced engineering and the generation of concepts for product-production systems, followed by a transition to R&D and product detailing.
