The effectiveness of conservative treatment of obesity and the impact on the frequency of complications in total hip arthroplasty

Purpose of the study: to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment of morbid obesity in patients with coxarthrosis, to determine the effect of obesity on the results of primary total hip arthroplasty, to assess the structure and frequency of complications.Materials and methods. A prospective study was carried out from 01.01.2016 to 31.12.2018 in the clinic of orthopedics and joint pathology of the Sechenov University, 82 patients with coxarthrosis were examined, who were referred to the clinic for total hip arthroplasty (THA) and a body mass index of more than 40 kg / m2. Of 82 patients with coxarthrosis, 3-4 tbsp. (KL), 28 (34.1%) men and 54 (65.9%) women, the average age was 59.5 years (min 52 years, max 68 years), the average BMI 41.8 kg / m2 (min 40 , max 48). Outpatient obesity treatment was performed before THA. Pain syndrome was assessed according to VAS and function of the hip joint according to the Harris index scale (HHS), radiography and the presence of complications.Results. The treatment of obesity was ineffective in 37 (45.1%) and the body mass index did not fall below 40 kg / m2, in 29 (35.4%) patients, the body weight decreased by 10-15% from the initial, and the index body weight ranged from 35 to 39.9 kg / m2, in 16 (19.5%) patients the body weight decreased by more than 15% (BMI function show_eabstract() { $('#eabstract1').hide(); $('#eabstract2').show(); $('#eabstract_expand').hide(); }
