Effectiveness of the methodology for selecting high-yielding soybean genotypes in the breeding nursery

In 2023, a retrospective analysis of the lines distinguished in the competitive variety trial was carried out and the performance of the earlier developed methodology of soybean genotype selection from the breeding nursery based on estimation by seed weight or a harvest index was tested. The data obtained confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed selection criteria. Of the five lines of different maturity groups analyzed, four were selected by harvest index and fully complied with the selection algorithm, one of them was selected by maximum seed weight and had an aboveaverage harvest index. The early maturing line was selected by harvest index. It was not possible to evaluate the direction of selection in this maturity group due to the lack of genotypes with similar growing season in the competitive variety trial. In addition to the chosen selection algorithm, it is recommended to select genotypes with maximum seed weight or harvest index in each maturity group, taking into account high values of the less important parameter.
