The effectiveness of smoking cessation patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and pulmonary tuberculosis by individual telephone counseling

The aim of the work is to assess the status of smoking and the effectiveness of smoking cessation in case cognitive behavioral therapy by telephone consultation of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (TB). The results of smoking cessation were analyzed in 75 COPD patients (47-73 years aged) and 55 patients with TB (28-60 years). The status of smoking (the number of cigarettes smoked per day, the duration of smoking, the degree of nicotine addiction (Fagerstrom test)), the duration of tobacco abstinence were determined. All patients received telephone counseling during the first month of the quitting. The study showed that most patients are ready to give up smoking and make repeated attempts to refuse. After a monthly telephone consultation (5-8 consultations) 30.7% of COPD patients and 54.5% of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis did not smoke. After 6 months 14.7% of patients with COPD and 21.8% of patients with tuberculosis remained non-smoking. The conclusion. The method of telephone counseling makes it possible to provide cognitive-behavioral therapy for smoking cessation, is one of the effective methods of assistance in refusing to use tobacco.
