The paper aims to examine the activities of civil society institutions in modern Russian sociopolitical realities. The authors primarily concentrate on the managerial effectiveness of these institutions. The problem of the existence and functioning of civil society institutions in Russia is a timely topic in the socio-political corps and has been on the agenda for a long time. According to a number of scholars, the Russian Federation has never had a civil society as it is commonly perceived in classical social science. In addition, the paper highlights the issue of the functioning of foreign civil society institutions. Notwithstanding the fact that civil society is more developed in foreign countries, there are difficulties that hinder the smooth operation of its institutions.
