The article deals with the poetics of ekphrasis in the novel «Eron» (2014), which takes the central place in the oeuvre of the famous Russian writer Anatoly Korolev. Ekphrastic discourse in his prose is uncommonly extensive. It exceeds the diegesis component of the texts and creates specific secondary mimesis refracted through the prism of culture. The article establishes the sources, objects of A. Korolev's ekphrastic descriptions and explores the functions of ekphrasis in the novel as a whole. It is the triptych «The Garden of Earthly Delights» by Hieronymus Bosch that becomes the proto-ekphrasis determining the plot and the poetics of «Eron». The plot's development and the system of characters are determined by the palimpsestic layering of pictorial, musical, and cinematographic ekphrases. The distinctive feature of A. Korolev's ekphrastic poetics is his use of ekphrasis as a method of autometadescription of the novelist's position in the text, and as a mean of the author's intellectual and philosophical reflection. The individual case of A. Korolev's ekphrasis could be considered as a symptom of a tendency to intermediality, typical of contemporary literature and synthesising languages of various arts.
