Environmental accommodation facilities as a factor of sustainable development of tourist destinations (by the example of the hotel market in Kazan)

With growing competition in the market of hotel service environmental technologies are one of the sources of competi- tive advantages of the hotel enterprise. This article analyzes the trends and prospects of environmental direction in the hotel industry within the sustainable development conception. The author shows result of the historical analysis of the ecological hotels development at the international and Russian market of hotel services. The thesis that hotel activity is a factor of sustainable development in tourist destination is substantiated. The reasons and the main determinants of the applying environmental technologies in activities of hotel companies are revealed. The concept of “environmental accommodation facilities” and its main features are defined. The article presents the research results of the hotel mar- ket in Kazan, which includes three main components - the competitive environment, the environmental situation and the potential consumers. The author substantiates the importance of development of environmental accommodation facilities in Kazan taking into account modern market demands and trends in tourism industry.
