Ecological-functional zoning of Birobidzhan: problems and prospects

To optimize the urban environment quality the author has worked out the algorithm of its ecological and functional zoning. On its basis it is possible to determine the features of planning structure, to substantiate anthropogenic loading on the natural components, to realize the environmental planning, etc. Having considered some promising trends of formation and development of the South Far East towns, the author has developed the ecological and functional zoning of the town of Birobidzhan. It is determined the main functions of landscape complexes and these complexes’ elements. The author offers some recommendations on improvement of the urban environment.
