The theoretical aspects of ensuring economic access and economic affordability of food for the population were considered. The use of rational food consumption in assessing the affordability of food was justified. The socio-economic nature of the distribution of food resources is considered. The consideration of the share of food expenditure in the structure of consumer spending of the population as a criterion for ensuring the economic affordability of food has been substantiated.
