The economic policy of the Khitan elite

This article analyses the macroeconomic policy of the elite of the nomadic Khitan Liao Empire (907-1125). Analysis of written sources leads to the conclusion that the governmenet of the country had carried out deliberate macroeconomic policy, the goal of which was to create an integrated economy. As a result, various economic sectors had been developed, which was the economic foundation of the empire's sustainable functioning, and enhanced its role in the ethno-political and socio-economic history of the entire East Asian region. The collected material allows for a fresh look at the civilization history of the nomadic peoples.
