The actual task of modern medical education is to bring the content of curricula in accordance with the new achievements of medical science. This article discusses the results of a critical review of economic theory and practice, which is based on the experience of research on the recent global economic downturn, and their implications for the formation of modern economic culture and nancial literacy of medical students. A critical analysis of the basic concepts of economic science revealed an insu cient understanding of the process of economic change, one of the reasons for which was the use of a traditional analytical apparatus designed to study static rather than dynamic states of the economy. The modernization of the economic component involves the use of a reformed economic science, which includes the rejection of theories, hypotheses and models that have shown their failure, as well as the use of the methods of the humanities and natural sciences to form the economic literacy of medical students. The interdisciplinary approach to medical education makes it possible to clarify the status of economic component, to overcome methodological individualism, market fundamentalism and mathematical formalism, to broaden the horizons of students-medicals by studying: Economics and management in health care, Fundamentals of project management, Organization of scienti c and biomedical research, and a block of natural sciences
