The economic aspect of procedural costs in criminal proceedings is considered. Questions of application of norms on procedural costs in view of absence of detailed normative fixing are compensated by explanations of the highest judicial instances. In this regard, the understanding of the economic nature of procedural costs will make it possible to resolve problematic issues relating to the calculation, distribution, recovery, in practice. The cost characteristics of criminal proceedings are directly related to the optimization of costs, so today the question of reducing procedural costs by simplifying the form in the Russian criminal process is relevant. It is noted that the institution of procedural costs affects the availability of justice, the effectiveness of criminal proceedings, which must be economically justified.
