Economic and social impact COVID-19 on the tourism industry

The tourism industry is a system-forming branch of the economy that effectively connects and uses complexes of various industries for socially significant purposes. Tourism involves about $4 trillion in turnover, for a third of the countries participating in the tourism market, tourism revenues make up the main item in the budget, and in 80 countries they are among the top five budget-forming items. The article briefly examines the economic and social impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism industry, noting that tourism turned out to be one of the sectors of the economy most affected by the epidemic in all countries, which affected people's livelihood, the system of public services and limited the range of opportunities on all continents. It is noted that no country has escaped serious losses in its tourism business. At the same time, the article points out that the crisis provides an opportunity to rethink the role and place of the tourism sector and its contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
