Economic-geographical approach to the analysis of the spatial positioning of the city (on the example of the Baikal region)

The relevance of the study of the spatial positioning of a city is based on the socio-economic transformations of development. It is very important to take into account the economic and geographical approach when implementing the strategy of socio-economic development of the city and its positioning. The article presents the results of the study, a comparative analysis of various theoretical approaches to the definition of the positioning category, in particular, from the perspective of socio-economic geography, economics and marketing, was carried out. Based on the analysis, the author came to the conclusion that the topic was insufficiently studied. In this work, the author gives a definition of the spatial positioning of the city as a territorial social system (TSS) of the microregional level, and reveals its basic principles. The methodological basis for analyzing the spatial positioning of a city is an integrated economic and geographical approach, the main instrument of which is a combination of factors determining the competitive ability.
