Special Expedition for Underwater Works (EPRON) on the Pacific Ocean: activities of the Khasan detachment in 1938

The paper is based on archival material from the Russian State Archive of the Navy (RSA Navy), St Petersburg. The contribution of the Special Expedition for Underwater Works (EPRON) on the Pacific Ocean (EPRON) to the strengthening of the defense potential of the USSR Far East is considered using as an example the urgent operational mission in the area of Lake Khasan (1938). The author concentrates on the specifics of the work carried out by the Khasan detachment of the EPRON in the channel (Posyet Bay) from 27 August to 5 October 1938. Examples are given of political – education work with military personnel, as well as the achievements of Stakhanovites and front-rank workers. The author concludes that the activities of the Far East Expeditionary special assignment submarine works (EPRON) played an important role in strengthening the provision of the Pacific Fleet and sea rescue service in the region.
