The article discusses the purposes and research problems, main results for the space experiment "CARBON" made on the spacecraft "BION-M" # 1. It describes the main development stages of the experiment and the scientific equipment "CARBON". With regard to the possible field of application in extreme micro - and nanoelectronics and aerospace instrument-making provides a summary of information about properties of silicon carbide as a unique semiconductor material.
