The authors explore the difficult fate of high relief, which was a part of the monument to Empress Catherine the Great, which was built in Simferopol to the 100th anniversary of the joining of Crimea to Russia. The monument was destroyed after the establishment of Soviet power in the peninsula, but the high relief preserved in the collection of the Crimean Regional Museum. Before the beginning of the Nazi occupation its evacuation in Armavir was carried out. During this time it was lost and found again, but the history of the origin of the valuable exhibits was forgotten. In 2015 the museum workers of Kuban and Crimea established the identity of Armavir high relief and evacuated from Simferopol fragment of the monument to Empress Catherine.
