Gene expression of matrix metallopro teinases and their tissue inhibitors in tumor tissues of patients with laryngeal and laryngopharyngeal cancers

The aim of the present study was to investigate the expression of matrix metalloproteinase genes (MMP-2,-9,-14) and their tissue inhibitors (TIMP-1,-2) as well as to estimate their correlation with clinical-morphological parameters of the tumor in patients with laryngeal and laryngopharyngeal cancers. Expression of genes -2, -9, -14 and TIMP-1, -2 was studied by real-time PCR method. Expression of MMP and TIMP genes was found to be dependent on the primary squamous cell laryngeal and laryngopharyngeal tumors. It was registered that the increase in MMP-2 and decrease in TIMP-2 inhibitor expressions were observed during the process of metastatic spread.
