Prostate cancer (PC) is a problem of growing importance due to the steadily increasing incidence and mortality as well as the difficulties associated with its diagnosis. The effectiveness of PC treatment is assessed by the evaluation of adenocarcinoma pathomorphosis, however, the use of conventional method does not always show the true picture of changes. The aim of the study was to analyse the degree of the prostate adenocarcinoma pathomorphosis using the immunohistochemical markers after maximal androgen blockade (MAB). Materials and methods. Biomaterial for the study was obtained during transrectal prostate biopsy (before treatment) and transurethral resection of the prostate (after treatment). Conclusion. Four month post MAB (via bilateral orchectomy) immunohistochemical examination showed significant decrease of proliferation index, expression of alpha-methylacyl-CoA racemase (AMACR), nuclear expression of androgens and apoptosis regulator Bcl-2 in the adenocarcinoma cells. Expression of the apoptosis regulator P53 in the nuclei of tumor cells after treatment also decreased, although the differences before and after MAB were not significant.
