Extremism in Russia: causes of occurrence and expansion

The article analyzes the social and political reasons of extremism occurrence and wide expansion in Russia. The author describes extremist movements in contemporary Russia (Nazism, Wahhabism). The concrete proposals for improving the counter-extremism actions are formulated. The author disproves the thesis that the main reasons of the extremist sentiments in Russia are multi-national and multiconfessional aspects of the country. According to the author’s opinion, it is the insufficient tolerance and the lack of national consolidation of population in the Russian Federation to be blamed.
