The article examines the issues and prospects of using arc microthrusters (AMTs) in attitude control systems (ACS) for small spacecraft (SC) in modern astronautics. Emphasis is placed on the relevance of this topic in the context of increasing interest in maneuverable satellites and enhancing their functional capabilities. The article discusses the significance of selecting optimal design parameters (ODPs) and developing a methodology for their selection for the effective application of AMTs as part of SC ACS. It addresses the improvement of maneuvering efficiency and technical characteristics of AMTs and SC. The research aims to optimize SC parameters with AMTs to enhance their functional capabilities in space. Additionally, the article analyzes issues related to cathode erosion during arc discharge ignition in AMTs. Methods and approaches to overcome these problems are extensively examined, such as material research for cathodes, improving thermal stability, optimizing the ignition process, and using preheating.
