The article deals with one of the little-studied in modern socio-philosophical and sociological literature issues of the specificity of sociological views on the elite of the prominent representative of the Eurasianism N. S. Trubetskoy. N. S. Trubetskoy, as the founders of the theory of elites G. Mosca and V. Pareto, defends the thesis of the inevitability of the elite existence and the necessity of performing certain functions by it. The article analyzes the the scientist's views on the forms of elite selection in societies of various types, including aristocratic and democratic. The article focuses on his substantiation of a new form of the elite stratum, which is characterized by the “ideocratic” system. Based on the analysis of. Trubetskoy’s sociological views on the elite, we conclude that it is possible to classify the theory created by the scientist as a special movement within the meritocratic theory of elites with a strong statist-ideological dominant
