Statement of the problem. The article, which continues the theme of the publication carried out earlier in this journal, examines emotional predicates with the semantics of surprise (‘udivlatsa’ and ‘divitsa’). The purpose of the article is to analyze predicates with emotional semantics showing the inner life of the ruler and his enemies in ancient Russian texts about power, primarily in the Tale of Bygone Years, in the texts of Tales of the Time of Troubles, etc. The authors have reviewed the scientific literature on the problem. The ethical assessment of the subjects of ancient Russian power is carried out by scribes using the lexemes udivlyati(s’a) and diviti(s’a), nominal predicates based on the root -div-. The syntactic relations of predicates of the emotional plane are characterized. As a result of the study, conclusions were drawn about the technologies of expressing the emotional component of the authorities of Ancient Russia, about the interaction of predicative blocks within the utterance. The authors have developed their own methodology for analyzing the vocabulary of potestar texts, studying the potestar area of the social space of Ancient Russia. Its essence consists in identifying the relationships between the syntactic structure of statements and the semantics of the described images of the rulers.
