Epidemiology of malignant neoplasms of oral cavity and pharynx in the territory of the Chelyabinsk region

Aim: to study the epidemiology of malignant neoplasms of oral cavity and pharynx in the territory of the Chelyabinsk region. We analyzed the following indices of malignant neo-plasms of oral cavity and pharynx: the morbidity structure, the dynamics of detection, the mortality in the adult population for the period from 2008 to 2014 in the Chelyabinsk region. The proportion of malignant neoplasms located in oropharyngeal area is 2.06 % in the total incidence of malignant tumors of the population of the Chelyabinsk region in 2014. During the period of 2008-2014 the incidence increased by 8.8 %, during the period of 2011-2014 the growth rate was 71.8 %. During the period of 2008-2014 the mortality increased by 0.7 %. The high rate of growth of malignant tumors of oral cavity and pharynx in the Chelyabinsk region was indicated. The incidence in the male population is much higher than the incidence in females - in 2012 the number of males with diagnosed pathology was over 3 times higher than the number of females with the same disease, in 2013 and 2014 the number of di¬seased males was twice as high as diseased females. The percentage of detected IV stage disease was high; the highest death rate due to cancer of oral cavity and pharynx was also detected.
