The history of Metropolitan Alexander (Paulus) who has already been studied, is placed in the context of inter-Orthodox relations, including relations with the Serbian Orthodox Church and Synod in Sremski Karlovci, as well as archival material describing the attitude of clergy and periodicals to these events. Particular attention is paid to the formation of the diocesan structure of the Estonian Church and its bishops.
