Stages of development of nationalism

The article critically examines the periodization of nationalism as an ideology and political practice, shows that the steps of activation of nationalism coincide with sharp upheavals in social life. The authors conclude that the renaissance of nationalism started in the last quarter of the 20th century and was the result of many processes. They were changes in the political image of the world after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the intensification of the processes of globalization and migration, converting previously predominantly mono-ethnic states in the multi-ethnic ones and aspirations of non-dominant ethnic groups to acquire statehood.
