Etymological method in the study of English and Russian ornythonyms

The article is aimed at the study of the connection between the functioning of English and Russian ornythonyms in present day languages and the historical changes of their primary form and meaning. Besides, the study deals with the motivation of modern meanings of ornithonyms. The authors pay special attention to the cases of "folk" or "false" etymology of English and Russian names of birds.
