The Etiology of Endometritis in Dairy Cows

The development of endometritis in cows is a complex pathological process resulting from the interaction of multiple factors. The disease is based on a disruption of the dynamic balance between bacterial contamination of the uterus during the postpartum period and the body's defense mechanisms. This study was conducted to identify the main pathogens causing endometritis, specifically Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Trueperella pyogenes. Data were collected from private farms in the Goranboy, Samukh, and Goygol districts of Azerbaijan. Three private farms were selected based on epizootiological data. The study confirms the widespread local distribution of the primary pathogens causing bacterial endometritis. Analysis of the frequency of pathogen detection revealed that Trueperella pyogenes plays a dominant role in the pathogenesis of the disease, being detected in 50% of the cows examined, followed by Staphylococcus aureus, detected in 38.2% of cases. The high frequency of Trueperella pyogenes infection underscores its key role in aggravating the pathological process and in the development of severe (purulent-catarrhal) forms of endometritis. Escherichia coli accounted for 15% of the total number of affected animals, which is comparable to data from other researchers. Despite its lower detection rate compared to Trueperella pyogenes and Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli remains important as one of the primary bacterial agents initiating the inflammatory response.
