This article deals with the relationship between the two most numerous ethnocultural groups of the bourgeoisie of the Simbirsk and Kazan provinces in the second half of the XIX. The author defines the peculiarities of the activity of the bourgeois estate societies of individual provincial and district cities of the considered provinces of the Middle Volga region. Also, on the basis of archival materials, an attempt is made to comprehensively analyze the functions of bourgeois communities, in which two ethnic groups predominated - Russians and Tatars. The article substantiates an important conclusion about the existence, along with ethno-mixed, so-called mono-ethnic bourgeois class associations. The author classifies the measures taken to restore the autonomy of the Tatar bourgeois societies of a number of Kazan provinces. Particularly noteworthy is the study of the activities of the united Russian-Tatar bourgeois society of Kazan, within the framework of which the diversity of the relationship of the estate corporation with local governments and government authorities is presented.
