Ethnographic realism: to the problem of the creative method (on the example of works by Marko Vovchok)

Considering the question about the nature and place of art by Mary Vilinska (who wrote under the pseudonym Marko Vovchok) in Russian-Ukrainian literary tradition of the mid-nineteenth century, the author of the article puts forward the idea of belonging of its most important works to the ethnographic realism. The content of the concept of “ethnographic realism” is shown through its link to sustainable pillars of Christian spirituality, closeness to the sentimentalism and distinction from romanticism.
