The evolution of China’s image in Russian media: historical context and modern perspectives

This article examines the formation of China's image in the Russian press from the 17th century to the present day. It explores the stages of changing perceptions of China by Russian society, beginning with the first trade and diplomatic contacts, the influence of imported goods and styles, 19th-century publications, as well as caricatures and articles from the Soviet period. Special attention is given to the modern portrayal of China in Russian mass media in the context of strategic partnership and economic cooperation. The author highlights that shift in political and economic relations between the two countries directly influenced their representation in the media, offering insights into the connection between international politics and public opinion.
