The name of Sergei Petrovich Melgunov is engraved forever in the annals of history as a prominent Russian historian, a stubborn fighter against Bolshevism forced to emigrate from Russia, the author of monographs “Red Terror in Russia (1918-1923)”, “The Tragedy of Admiral Kolchak”, “Bolshevik Seizure of Power: The October Revolution of 1917” which study the causes of the Russian Revolution of 1917 and the Russian Civil War. The ideas and views of S.P. Melgunov have been changed in the midst of crisis and the collapse of the Popular Socialist Party and the loss of faith in the ideals of the populist socialism. In the end, he started to reach out to and support the ideas of the right-wing monarchists that were totally alien to him in his early life and during his first years in exile. The evolving social and political views of the historian reflected in his writings are of particular interest to scientists and play an import role in the analysis of his historical studies.
