Evolution of the «productive forces» definition in different economic schools

The article presents a study of various theoretical approaches to the definition of «productive forces». A comparison of orthodox and modern approaches clarify the concept of productive forces, which is a complex system, constantly being enriched and filled with a qualitatively new content in the process of historical development. The distinctive features between the concepts of «factors of production» and «productive forces» are identified. It has been established that the concept of «productive forces» is wider, more universal and progressive than the concept of «factors of production». It is found that the theory of the factors of production is constantly subjected to change upon the occurrence of certain scientific and technological change, while the theory of productive forces initially takes into account the technical and scientific factors.
