This article analyzes the evolution of legal regulation of investment activity in Russia in the context of socioeconomic transformations and changing economic models. It examines the key stages in the development of investment relations: the pre-revolutionary period with the active participation of private and foreign capital, the Soviet model with its predominance of state ownership and planned regulation, and the transformation of investment legislation during the New Economic Policy (NEP), Perestroika, and post-Soviet market reforms. Particular attention is paid to the conditions for the emergence of investment activity associated with socioeconomic transformations, the establishment of capitalist relations in the Russian Empire, the development of wage labor, and other accompanying changes in the country’s social life. Cocnclusion dwells upon the fact that investment law in Russia has historically developed as an instrument for implementing state economic policy.
